Items can be electroplated in gold, silver or even copper.  This involves using an electric current to bond a layer of metal onto the surface of the pewter.  The plated surface is quite durable and can be polished.

There are various shades of gold available - the buckle in the picture to the right has been plated in 24 carot gold.  Copper plating can be used to give a bronze finish to pewter.

Cold cast enamelling involves the use of coloured resins that are poured into a hollow in an object which upon hardening gives a high gloss finish which is very hard wearing.  A wide range of colours are available.  The Belt Buckle above has been enamelled in Bottle Green.  The brooch to the left has been enamelled in blue.
